Biodiversity-Definition

My definition of Biodiversity: the variety of living species within an ecosystem, including plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi.  The amount of biodiversity relates to the health of an ecosystem and the ability to adapt to pressures.

Diversity in species refers to the number of different species in an area. Genetic diversity is also important to maintain a variety of genetic traits so they are able to recover from unforeseen changes such as viruses, or illnesses. having diversity in ecosystems also helps when there is a variety of different types of ecosystems within an area.  This helps when there are changing conditions in an area.

Having biodiversity on many levels such as local, or a larger scale helps with all of the types of diversity.  The range in species,  genetic diversity, and amount of ecosystems are needed to protect the larger biosphere.
